maybe (This opening line refers to a story I read to the Garfield students about nine children who "competed" in a Special Olympics event…when one boy fell, the entire group, who had trained together, went back to the starting line to lift him off the ground and proceed, together, to the finish line.) Maybe I'm just a competitive person, more so than others, but I can't imagine myself doing what that boy did. Yes, my friends are very important to me, but so is working hard towards goals. Because I push myself so hard, it sometimes seems like I have no drive left for anyone else, no time, even, to turn around and look to see how my friends may be progressing. I think I tend to push forward quickly, sometimes (although not intentionally hurting anyone) running over anyone who may be in my way. Not to say that I am selfish or egotistical (I hope), but only that where I can go often seems to be more important than where I am. Elementary school leads up to middle school, which prepares you for high school, which sends you to college. Everything seems to be in preparation, but for what?
