only in a perfect world

Sometimes I wonder
If there was anything I could have done
If only I could
have the ability
to turn back time
I would
Keep her from
Saying those things
from hurting us
Keep her from going
and leaving us behind
To watch her walk away
To watch her forget
As if we didn't exist
As if we weren't hers
As if she never cared
Watching her go
Without so much
As a note or goodbye
Or even a look
We gave her our lives
and still she
threw it all away
We worked our
fingers to the
Proverbial bone
But she didn't want bones
She wanted perfection
We tried for it
Yearned for it
But that was
the one thing we
couldn't give her
Couldn't achieve
Perfection is that
which could bring her back.
