Trigger of Light

Trigger of Light is an audio play made up of monologues, scenes and narrative that grew out of Pamela Sackett's work in King County Youth Detention Facility in Washington state, sponsored by Seattle Repertory Theatre's Outreach and Education program. Detainees' writings and verbatim excerpts from interviews with adults who affect their lives make up most of this collage of voices.

The result is a poignant, thought-provoking and affecting story with an emotion literacy perspective and a glimmer of hope for change.

"I think a lot about my brother who has been in prison for eight years for murder. He is really angry and violent. He is in much pain. He was never heard...he just needs to be heard... I saw and heard my brother and myself in these kids. I heard my mother in the adult characters. We all need help. I am happy to have had this experience. I cried...I feel my love for myself...I feel my pain...thank you."

"I found your art to be very understanding! I too wish to be able to come forth and speak of my angers.... My family is inclose [sic] with our inner feelings. Seems to come out only when something dramatic appears. I wish to speak freely about my feelings towards my family. As you know it's hardest to speak to people you love the most. Sorry time to go. I wish you the best of luck on your program and please continue. We need people who want to understand us."
